Problems With Your Cataract LensCataract lens problems are being faced by millions of people every year. These people may have difficulty seeing at night, seeing things up close, have problems driving or seeing things at night, or have no symptoms at all. It all depends on the individual person. As some people are unaware of their particular problem, they may not seek treatment, which can make the problem worse. This problem can persist if they have a problem in only one eye, rather than both eyes. The cataract itself affects the lens of the eye. The cataract affects the lens by forming a crystallized covering of the eye. This covering may appear as pale yellow, darker yellow, or as a milky white color. Unfortunately this is not always visible to the naked eye. In the early stages, the individual may have problems with their site, but usually do not have any odd coloring to their eye. They may notice some slight yellowing at the corners, but this does not always happen. Those who do experience vision problems, especially at night may have a cataract on their lens. If there is a cataract on the lens, it is important to seek medical treatment, before the problem escalates. There are generally no treatments available other than surgery. Prior to the surgery, the cataract lens problem must first be diagnosed by a professional eye doctor. The doctor has access to specialized tools that can see deep inside the eye to notice the first signs of a cataract forming on the lens. They may be able to see the cataract in its early beginnings, and also notice the change in color to the eye itself. Those who have a cataract will eventually have to have cataract surgery. This type of surgery removes the cataract, and replaces it with a fake lens. This lens is usually made of a plastic type material that it lightweight and flexible. It is made to closely mimic the look and feel of the actual lens, and mimic its effectiveness. If it was made of a different material, the eye may try to constantly push out the new lens, by thinking that it was some type of debris caught in the eye. This is the only real solution to a cataract, to replace the lens with a new one. Patients who have had the surgery have reported that their vision increased dramatically in the days following the operation. A cataract is effectively damage done to the lens as the result of advanced age. Those who suffer from the problem are over the age of fifty, and typically over the age of sixty when they have the surgery to replace the lens with a new one. This can be done by a surgeon in a short amount of time, usually less than an hour.
